Veterans and the Funeral Trust
Funeral Trusts should be considered while doing Veterans planning. Most veterans are entitled to $300.00, a marker, and a flag for burial expenses. Since funeral expenses can exceed $10,000.00 in many states, the need for planning becomes important if the veteran is applying for Medicaid or VA benefits.
The funeral trust is not subject to a five year look-back in most state and is an exempt asset. Please be sure to ask your VA accredited planner to explain the benefits of planning funeral expenses with a funeral trust.
